Hello I am Mrs Mackenzie and I welcome everyone to Base 3’s page! The Teaching Assistants in class are Mrs Jones and Mrs Garrett. We believe that learning should always be fun and engaging and we ensure that all lessons are accessible for all children. Base 3 is full of smiles and laughter so come and join us here to see what we have been learning about during the theme this term.
Each week your child will receive a new reading book and a book to share with you from the reading corner. We will also be using bug club. Please remind your child to bring in their reading diary every Friday because I will read with the children on a weekly basis and children will be using bug club while in school. We also check the reading diaries to make sure your child is reading three times a week at home.
Please ensure that the children bring their PE kits in every Monday and take them home every Friday so they are able to be ready for the following week. Please clearly label all of the children’s PE kit to stop any confusion.
In Base 3, P.E is on a Thursday afternoon.
If at any time, you need to contact me please write a note in the communication diary or email on the base log in: firstname.lastname@example.org
Value of the Month
The Value of the Month this month is ‘Courage’.
In literacy this half term we will be writing a narrative based around the story ‘The Ironbridge Ogre’. We will be writing our own mythical story based on the ogre. Pupils will be acting out the story using puppets and exploring their likes and dislikes when listening to the story and what else they might want to find out. Pupils will then write their own story before moving onto an information text about Thomas Telford.
This half term will be focusing on shape. Pupils will be learning about 2D and 3D shape. They will be learning about edges, sides and vertices as well as pattern. Pupils will also be reviewing their multiplication and division knowledge as well as statistic knowledge taught during last half term.
Pupils will then begin the fractions unit before moving into the summer term.
Our science topic is ‘Seasonal Change’. During the topic pupils will be making a weather gauge to record the temperature and rain and at the end of the topic plot their findings on to a pictogram.
Pupils will learn about the sun and how to stay safe in the sun and how wearing sunscreen is important. They will learn about the equator and how this affects hot and cold climate in other countries.
