Base 7 - The Beluga Whales
Hello and welcome to Base 7’s page! Our teacher is Mrs Crowe and our teaching assistants are Mrs Whitehouse and Miss Broomhall. Mrs Mckenzie also teaches us on Fridays.
In Base 7, we like to enjoy learning and always make sure to try our best. We make sure we ‘believe in ourselves’ and work together to achieve our targets. Children are encouraged to explore their passions and foster a love for learning mentality.
Reading is a huge focus at Teagues Bridge Primary School. We encourage the children to read their reading book along with books that spark their interest- this can all be recorded in their reading diary. We have dedicate personal reading time every day so if your child has a particular interest encourage them to bring a book they will enjoy!
Our guided reading book this half term is ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell. You may like to do some research about Katherine Rundell as she is also our Author of the Month! What other books has she written? What inspires her stories? Bring in what you find out; we would love you to share any research with the rest of the class!
We hope that you have found this information useful, if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Base 7 team.
Value of the Season
The value of the season is Responsibility. Base 7 have been developing their understanding of being responsible. At the moment we are focusing particularly on being responsible for our belongings and our classroom environment so that it is a calm and tidy space to learn.
History focus
In History this term we are focusing on Britain from the end of the Roman rule in 43AD through to the victory of William the Conqueror, at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
We started by finding out about the Anglo Saxons. We found out about how they invaded and settled in Britain coming from European countries such as Denmark, Germany and Denmark. We learnt how they changed religion in Britain, being the first to bring Christianity to British shores. We also found out about how they divided Britain into kingdoms, many of these are still used today as counties.
In the second half of the Autumn term we will be learning about the Vikings invasion from around 767AD to the Battle of Hasting. We will be learning about where they Vikings came from and why they chose to settle in Britain. We will also be learning about the key Viking Kings and how their religious beliefs differed from the Anglo Saxons.
In Science, Base 7 will be learning about Materials and their properties. We will be learning about different changes in materials including
1. Types of Change
There are two main types of changes that can happen to materials
a) Reversible Changes
These are changes that can be undone — the material can go back to what it was before.
b) Irreversible Changes
These are changes that cannot be undone — a new material is made
2. Signs of an Irreversible Change
3. Dissolving
4. Separating Mixtures
