02 / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about absence?
Select a question below to find the information you need.
My child is unwell. What should I do?Please telephone the school office on 01952 388450 no later than 9.00am. Leave your child's name, class and a brief explanation of the illness. We request a call for every day of absence unless you have spoken directly with the Attendance Officer.
Why do I need to call every day?We cannot assume your child is still unwell because they were absent the previous day. If an illness is likely to result in a longer absence, please contact us so we can agree suitable arrangements.
My child has an appointment during the school day. What should I do?Please send your child to school with a note explaining the reason for leaving early and the collection time. This can be handed to Reception or the class teacher. Alternatively, speak to the teacher or school office. Evidence showing the appointment date and time must be provided.
I've forgotten to send a note about collecting my child early. Please call the school office on 01952 388450 to inform the administration team.
Can I take my child out of school during term time?Leave of absence can only be authorised by the Headteacher in exceptional circumstances. These are generally unavoidable, one-off situations rather than regular family holidays.
Please complete a Leave of Absence Request Form and submit it to school at least four weeks before the proposed absence. The form is available from the school office or website.
Include as much relevant information as possible so the Headteacher can consider your request.
03 / PUNCTUALITY
A positive start to every day.
Arriving on time helps children settle into the classroom, spend time with friends and feel ready to learn. Good punctuality builds confidence, supports achievement and helps children develop habits that will benefit them throughout life.
Late before the register closes
Your child may miss time with friends and the beginning of morning routines, which can leave them feeling unsettled as lessons start.
Late after the register closes
This is recorded as an unauthorised absence for the relevant session. Your child may also miss important teaching and instructions at the start of the day.
04 / PRACTICAL ADVICE
Small routines make a big difference.
- Check the school timetable and prepare uniform, PE kit and homework the night before.
- Encourage homework to be completed in the evening rather than during the morning rush.
- Establish a consistent bedtime routine so your child gets enough rest.
- Use a reliable alarm and encourage your child to help set it.
- Make time for breakfast, or consider our school Breakfast Club if needed.
- Have a back-up plan for getting to school if unexpected difficulties arise.
- Allow enough time for your journey, particularly during busy mornings.
- If punctuality is becoming difficult, please speak to a teacher. We're here to help.
